This is not to say that we should just blindly take from the rich and give to the poor as handouts. There must always be incentive to work hard. But when is the Lion's Share enough? How much more of our countries' bountiful wealth should be hoarded amongst the few before it is too much?
We will only continue to thrive in our global competitiveness with a strong middle class, and a general population that can afford healthy food and basic health care while reinvesting expendable income back into the community. No financially elite fraction of our country can sustain our workforce alone, and this is why efforts to create a livable minimum wage, eliminate manipulated tax loopholes, incentivize entrepreneurship, and shift the norm of access to basic health care as a right are so important.
